Skin Specialists in Johor | Dermatologists Johor 2020 / 2021

If you are looking for skin specialists in Johor Bahru, you are in the right place. Skin specialists or dermatologists are medically qualified doctors who provide a range of skin care services from treating simple skin conditions to diagnosis and management of more complicated skin cases.

It is clear from browsing around the online space that there is a lot of misinformation being spread. Readers and publishers tend to have problems differentiating between aesthetic doctors, dermatologists and plastic surgeons.

Aesthetic doctors, are general practitioners (GPs) who have a special interest in aesthetic medicine. They attend certificate or even diploma courses, to study and train in this field.

Aesthetic doctors offer non-invasive and minimally-invasive procedures such as Botox injection, dermal fillers, chemical peels, various lasers and weight-loss programmes.

On the other hand, dermatologists are doctors who specialise in the field of treating skin diseases. After graduating medical school, they further pursue courses in dermatology.

Many dermatologists nowadays also offer aesthetic procedures such as dermal fillers and the various laser treatments. Registered dermatologists are registered under the National Specialist Register (NSR).

Plastic surgeons are doctors who specialise in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. Not only do they do cosmetic operations such as nose jobs, breast enhancements, liposuction or face lifts, they also perform reconstructive operations for those who have birth defects such as cleft palate or injuries from accidents or burns. Registered plastic surgeons are also registered under the National Specialist Register (NSR).

To regulate the booming aesthetic industry, the Health Ministry has come up with a regulatory body for aesthetic doctors, dermatologists and plastic surgeons.

A panel comprising the three groups of doctors will decide on the aesthetic procedures that each individual doctor is allowed to practice by awarding them with a Letter of Credentialing and Privileging (LCP). The GPs will be need to have LCP Chapter 1, dermatologists LCP Chapter 2 and plastic surgeons; LCP Chapter 3.

This is done by conducting interviews and written exams to ensure that only qualified and experienced doctors perform the relevant procedures.

In this post, we define skin specialists or dermatologists as medically qualified doctors who provide a range of skin care services from treating simple skin conditions to diagnosis and management of more complicated skin cases. Just so that we are on the same page, a skin specialist is a dermatologist if he holds a professional medical degree with further post-graduate training in skin diseases.
