Does LASIK hurt?
I would assume that you are referring to your eyes and not your pocket.
You won't feel pain during LASIK or PRK, because your eye surgeon will place anesthetic eye drops in your eye first. You may also be given some pain medication and steroid eye drops to be taken after the LASIK procedure. Many LASIK patients report no more than mild discomfort for a day or so after surgery. There is more discomfort after PRK because the procedure 'exposes' the deeper layers of the cornea.
For clear and comfortable vision after PRK, protective surface cells have to grow back over the treated area. This process can take a week or two, sometimes longer.
Steroid eye drops are commonly prescribed after Lasik to mute the wound response and reduce redness of your cornea. Please use them exactly as directed by the surgeon without stopping, reducing or increasing them until new instructions from your surgeon, and that long-term steroid use can cause the pressure inside the eye to become elevated. Your doctor should check this intraocular pressure (IOP) regularly.
Some LASIK patients may delay their follow-up visits but continue the steroid use. Please don't do that. Visit your surgeon for your follow-up visit as directed.
